In the late 1950s on the beaches of Rio, an eclectic group of musicians came together to create the distinctive and sensual music known as Bossa Nova. Classic tracks include 'The Girl from Ipanema', 'Wave', and 'Desafinado', and Bossa Nova is now firmly lodged in the international consciousness.
"Bossa Nova: the sound that seduced the world" is a two-part radio series and a television documentary made by independent program-maker Greg Appel together with Peter Hall, and commissioned for the ABC by the Regional Production Fund.
It features interviews with many legendary Bossa Nova musicians—including Sergio Mendes and Joao Donato—taped in Rio de Janeiro and Australia, along with performances by The Bossa Nova Hot Club at the 2007 Sydney Festival.
